Cooking
If you gather meat from an animal, or water from a well or lake, you need to cook it before it is safe to consume. For this you can either craft a campfire, or use a stove in one of the houses on the island. To get a fire going you need logs and matches.
Logs can be found in log piles, or gathered from trees using an axe. Matches can be found in drawers or on zombies.
Smelting
To craft certain items you need iron bars. You obtain iron bars by smelting scrap metal at the location on your map labeled as “ironsmith”. Scrap metal can be found, or created by smelting tools that contain iron.
